1. Christmas: More or Less? This Advent-Christmas season we’re encouraging each other to make our celebration more meaningful by spending less on ourselves and giving more to those who are in greatest need. We have catalogues from The Presbyterian Church in Canada that provide a list of significant gifts to share. Another gift giving project is called “Advent Conspiracy”, which can be found at www.adventconspiracy.org.
Have you followed up on this project? What have you done less to make this Christmas mean more? Share your story by an email to the church so we can share it with the rest of the church family: office@stpaulspcottawa.com
2. Scripture for this Sunday – John 1: 1-5, 10-14
3. Christmas Eve Services – Be sure to join us and invite friends, family and neighbours to come along for one of our two Christmas Eve Services this year. At 4:00 p.m. we’ll host a Family Worship Service called “An Upside Down Christmas,” and at 7:00 p.m. we’re looking forward to a traditional Candlelight Service.
4. Prayers for Urbana – please remember the InterVarsity student conference in St Louis called Urbana in your prayers this week. Pray for safe travels and God's blessing upon: Amanda, David, Heather, Nana, Patrick, Phil, Robin and Victoria. Our student team will leave on Dec 26 and return Jan 1.
5. Single Services on Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 – We will share combined worship on the two Sundays of the Christmas break, and we look forward to seeing you at 10:30 am on both Sundays to celebrate God’s grace in 2012 and consecrate ourselves to a new year of faith, discipleship and ministry!
6. A Special Service of Worship – You are invited to St. Paul’s on January 6 at 2:00 p.m. A service of worship will be held when Heather Shugart will be baptized. The whole congregation is encouraged to attend this most significant occasion in a young Christian’s life when her father, Ian Shugart will preach and Jack will minister the Sacrament. Heather will share her Christian journey with us at the 10:30 service that day.
7. International Potluck Dinner – Mark off January 19, 2013 in your calendars for St. Paul’s International Pot-Luck Dinner at 5:30 p.m. More details to follow soon.
8. Pinecrest Terrace Food Bank – thanks you for your recent generous donation of food. We appreciate so much your consistent giving, and your partnership with us as we help those in need. Special thanks to Jack and Audrey Bush who bring the food from St. Paul's to the Food Bank. Their behind-the-scenes involvement is a critical part of getting food to the hungry and we're grateful for them!
