*1. Remembering Helga Stewart* – A Memorial Service is set for St. Paul’s tomorrow, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with visitation with the family from 1:00. *2. Scripture for this Sunday* – Luke 4:1-13 This Sunday Jack continues a new series of sermons from Luke’s Gospel in which we consider some of the critical moments and major turning points in the life and ministry of Jesus, reflecting on what they meant to Him and how they impact us. These are the “Milestones” that shaped Jesus’ mission and our own. *3. Pioneer Clubs Sunday – *this Sunday, February 3. Pioneer Clubs is our Thursday evening children’s ministry. Children aged 3 to 12 years old meet for 90 minutes of singing, games, crafts, Bible exploration, Scripture memory, snacks and more! This Sunday in our presentation, we praise God for our dedicated leaders and helpers, Prayer Pals and parents who so faithfully bring their children to Pioneer Clubs each week. Thank you, St. Paul’s congregation for your continued prayers for this ministry. Please check out our information table in Campbell Hall. For more information about Pioneer Clubs at St. Paul’s, please contact Janet Mabie at 613-825-5239 or jfmabie@yahoo.ca. *4. A Commitment in the Lord – *this Sunday, Stuart and Victoria Miles will bring their infant daughter, Julia Grace, to the front of the church at the 10:30am service to dedicate her to Christian nurture at home and in the church. Let’s pray for these young parents and for ourselves as we are reminded of our responsibility for our children at St. Paul’s. *5. Family Fellowship – *The Family Fellowship Group will meet this Sunday, February 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. All families with young children are invited for a potluck dinner and fellowship. For further information please contact Geoff Colman at 613-722-5630 or rtoppscolman@gmail.com. *6. More of Christ. Less of Me – *The season of Lent is approaching. Lent is a tradition in the Christian calendar with great significance for many Christians. The Lenten season helps prepare God’s people for Easter. Many Christians participate in Lent through various spiritual disciplines such as prayer, worship and fasting. This year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 13, signaling the start of the Lenten season. Consider joining us in the participation of Lent. This year we will teach and invite St. Paul’s to the spiritual discipline of fasting. We will also provide Sunday Evening Prayer Vigils which will start on Sunday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m. Let’s join together as a congregation in drawing closer to Christ during the Lenten season. *7. St. Paul’s Book Circle – *invites you to a discussion of the book *Amusing Ourselves to Death* by Neil Postman. It is a thought-provoking and compelling book that looks at how the entertainment industry, namely television, has changed the way society thinks. Although it was written in 1985, it has an even broader relevance in today’s world of social media. We meet on Monday, February 11 in the Fireside Room from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. *8. Student* *Care Packages* – St. Paul’s is blessed by the presence of university and college students in town but let’s not forget our out- of-town students. Help us keep in contact with them by sending Care Packages. Phil is looking for some volunteers to help maintain contact with these students. Much of the work is done on your own time. If interested, please contact Phil at philstpaul@hotmail.com. *9. Please Help the Youth* – Once again we need help from the Small Groups at St. Paul’s! We are looking for eight groups to help by providing soup, bread and clean-up services for our Friday night program at Epicentre. A sign-up sheet is available in the narthex for the available dates for any groups who are interested in helping us with this vital ministry to our youth. *10. Income Tax Receipts for 2012 available. *Please check the box in the narthex after the service. *11. A Word from Jack:* Dear friends at St. Paul’s, Marian and I have been granted the wonderful privilege of sharing ministry with you for over fourteen years, and we thank God for every moment and each person whom God has brought to this church and into our lives. We believe that it is now time to step down from St. Paul’s, and indeed, from 37 years of richly blessed ministry, so we are reluctantly announcing our retirement. Our time at St. Paul’s will come to a close on June 1, and my final Sunday in the pulpit will be May 26, God willing. We thank you for your love, fellowship and support over these years. It is impossible for us to put into words how much St. Paul’s means to us and what a gift it has been to lead our church family since January 1999. This Sunday morning our Clerk of Session, Dan Seekings, will briefly share with you the process that will lead to a successor. _______________________________________________ Enews mailing list https://stpaulsottawa.com/mailman/listinfo/enews_stpaulspcottawa.com To unsubscribe, send a message to enews-leave@stpaulspcottawa.com
