1. Prayer Fellowship Meeting – Our next Prayer Fellowship meeting is tomorrow, Saturday, July 20 at 8:00 a.m. in the Resource Room. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pray for personal concerns, members of the congregation and community, as well as national and global issues. 2. This Sunday – One of our elders, Jeff Cavill, will be preaching from Matthew 25: 14-30. 3. Summer Fun Activity for Children this Sunday – the children will be enjoying outdoor games and “slushies”. 4. Sonsurf Summer Camp Update – Seventy-five energetic children (Grades JK to grade 4) participated with great enthusiasm in our summer camp this past week. It was a tremendous success! Everyone enjoyed music, games, crafts, Bible stories and snacks as they learned more about God’s love. I would like to thank the dedicated leaders and numerous volunteers who ensured that the camp ran smoothly. Special thanks to the amazing Food Team who made certain that the energy level was maintained with nutritious and fun snacks. Finally I would like to extend a huge thank you to the congregation who donated food, drinks, craft materials, decorations and prayer support. It was an amazing group effort and we could not have done it without all of your support. Sincerely, Judy Jack (Children’s Pastor). 5. Sweat ‘n Sweet Experience – We had our first trial run with a boys and girls evening program for preteens. A good group of guys showed up and we played a lot of games and sports. A highlight was the water balloon catapult! We are looking forward to launching a similar program next year. We thank the volunteers who helped us. 6. Taking a Break – Rev. Phil, our Assistant Minister, will be taking a break from the office from July 23 to August 6. If you have a pastoral need, please call the office and we will arrange for assistance. 7. Summer Refreshment Volunteers Still Needed – We still need volunteers to serve juice during the fellowship time after the 10:30 a.m. worship services for the following dates: August 25, September 1 and 8. Please sign the sheet in the narthex. 8. Bill Ferguson Passed Away – Bill passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12. Family will receive friends at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa) on Saturday, July 20, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. 9. Finance Update – The Finance Team reports the financial position for the year to date ending June 30, 2013: Giving Goal January through June $295,334 Amount Given to End of June 287,054 Total Expenses 309,603 Our contributions are a small amount behind the same period last year, and we are behind in donations according to the “giving goal” trend approach. Total expenses are a bit higher than usual, but will be reduced slightly later in the year as the congregation will no longer support the senior pastor salary. We continue to encourage prayerful contributions to your congregation’s mission work. The congregation’s “pre-authorized remittance” (PAR) program is an excellent method of managing your contributions while on holidays. Mark Ranson |
