1. This Sunday – Ian Shugart continues “Life in the City”, a sermon series on 1 Corinthians, one of Paul’s letters that is still timely and compelling. Ian will be preaching this Sunday from 1 Corinthians 1:18 – 2:5.
2. Right Now Media Workshop – St. Paul's has acquired a free online Christian video library titled Right Now Media. Many of you (83 people) have already logged in as users. Right Now Media offers a variety of videos on various issues from well-known speakers. It is a great tool for anyone involved in Christian teaching. To help you use this tool more effectively, a short 15 minute workshop will be offered on Sunday, September 29 at around 11:45 a.m. As an added incentive, Right Now Media has provided a free APPLE TV which will be given to one lucky winner at the workshop as a door prize! 3. Lord, Teach Me to Pray – As our church continues the search process, we want the focus of our church to be on God, not the search process. Let us turn our attention to the Lord by drawing closer to Him in prayer. The focus for St. Paul’s this year will be “Lord, Teach Me to Pray”. There will be various opportunities to elevate prayer at St. Paul’s. One such opportunity is a series of workshops on prayer offered by the founders of the National House of Prayer in Ottawa: Rob Parker Sr. and Rob Parker Jr. On Sunday, October 6, Rob Parker Jr. will provide the Sunday message and at 7 p.m., he will teach our first workshop on prayer. More details are provided in the insert.
4. Lord, teach me to pray…for missionaries – Join us in welcoming Scott and Beth Hurd from October 13 – 27 as our Missionaries in Residence. This time has been set aside to promote missions, ministry abroad and evangelism, and we are encouraging everyone to learn from their experiences and challenges in serving overseas. They will be spending time with our Small Groups and Sunday School classes, and Scott will preach our Sunday message on October 20. We are grateful they are able to dedicate this time to St. Paul's and we pray God will bless us during this special time.
5. Prayer Fellowship – Our next meeting is on Saturday, October 5 at 8:00 a.m. in the Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pray for personal concerns, members of the congregation and community as well as national and global issues.
6. Ride for Refuge: Support The Ottawa Mission – On October 5 join cyclists in a fundraising event for the homeless. You can sign up for a 10, 25 or 50 km. route. The Ottawa Mission is one of the beneficiary organizations this year; you can find full details at ottawamission.com/ride-for-refuge or contact Aimee Rae at 613-722-7892.
7. The next Family Fellowship – Sunday, October 6 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. All families with young children are invited to join us for good fellowship, family fun and food. We will play games together and share a potluck supper.
8. Food Drive – St Paul’s will once again invite you to share your bounty with those in need during the Thanksgiving season. Starting this weekend until Thanksgiving Sunday, boxes will be made available in the narthex to collect nonperishables for the local Food Bank. On Thanksgiving Sunday, we will have a special offering collection in which we will invite children to offer up nonperishable food items to the Lord on His table.
9. St. Paul's Book Circle – The Book Circle meets on the second Monday of every other month. Since our next meeting is scheduled for October 14 (Thanksgiving Day), we have moved it ahead to October 7. We will be discussing the book Necessary Endings by Dr. Henry Cloud. We would love to have you join us for our informal discussion and time of sharing thoughts and opinions on the book. It is always an informative and enjoyable evening. 10. Mission Craft News – The Mission Craft Team will meet at 10:00 a.m. in the Fireside Room on Saturday, October 19. Anyone who would like to learn how to make a milk bag mat is invited to join us. If you can spare some time to help us cut up bags, please come and enjoy a coffee and a treat. We welcome new ideas for projects. Pillowcase Sundress Update: Patterns for the sundresses made out of pillowcases are available for anyone who would like to make one at home. These dresses are being shipped to Uganda! 11. Children’s Ministry Needs YOUR Help – Please take a look at the notice on the bulletin board in the narthex that lists a wide variety of ways you can help. There are some very short-term projects through to longer-term commitments. There is something suitable for ALL ages and interests – teens to seniors. 12.The Benevolent Fund – The Lord teaches us to “do good and share with others for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16). There are some in our congregation who face significant financial challenges. St. Paul’s has a Benevolent Fund which is used to assist those faced with urgent financial needs. Please consider making a donation by marking ”Benevolent Fund” on your offering envelope for this purpose. For those in our congregation who are experiencing financial challenges and are seeking assistance, please contact Phil Kim in the church office.
13.Thank you St Paul’s – Many of you will have heard in the news recently about the evacuation of D. Roy Kennedy School next to St Paul’s. During the school evacuation, St Paul’s opened its doors to the entire staff and student population and provided a safe haven. During the entire afternoon, the staff and students enjoyed their lunches here and were entertained by movies in the sanctuary. We have received many messages of appreciation from the staff and students from D. Roy Kennedy as well as appreciation from the parents. We are very blessed to enjoy the facilities and resources that are available at St Paul’s.
